What is the latest update?

The project is currently in the Demolition and Site Remediation stage.

A DA was lodged with Central Coast Council on 11th June 2026 (DA/869/2026) regarding removal of overgrown and low retention value trees, and a limited number of more established trees. The DA refers to the site by its redundant name, The Grove Community and Cultural Hub, but specifies Wyong Christian Community School as the applicant. A total of 77 trees is proposed for removal; no individual tree is rated in excellent health and condition with four (4) assessed as dead and hazardous. Ten (10) trees recommended for removal fall within land gazetted by Transport NSW for intersection development at the junction of North Road and Pacific Highway. The majority of tree removal is proximal to the onsite driveway and carpark required for off-road parking and services at the site. Wyong Christian Community School proposes replanting 79 trees and 913 shrubs and groundcover plants to sufficiently offset any loss of amenity and biodiversity, and retain green canopy at the site.

Why did Wyong Grove Public School close?

The NSW Department of Education closed Wyong Grove Public School at the end of 2013 in response to changing enrolment demands and community needs. The entity was amalgamated with Wyong Public School.

What is Wyong Christian Community School doing on the site?

Wyong Christian Community School is repurposing the site for contemporary education with purpose-built infants facilities (for children in Kindergarten to Year 2). The site also allows the addition of a preschool for 60 children aged 3-5 years old, which will operate independently to Wyong Christian Community School, and a School for Specific Purposes for infants aged children (specifically supporting children in Years 1 and 2).

Wyong Christian Community School is one of the leading educators in the region, upholding a commitment to teaching and learning with a biblical worldview, serving local families with children in Kindergarten to Year 12. Our school has experienced increasing demand for places and remains committed to delivering an education characterised by excellence, integrity, respect, service and compassion. We have provided additional information to our community in the lead up to this development, and the general public is welcome to read this information here.

What should I expect during redevelopment this year?

Sadly, the site and several buildings have fallen into disrepair and are no longer fit for educational purposes. As a result, two buildings and the old toilet block will be demolished and removed during June and July 2026. The school has engaged Combined Demolition Services, based at Terrigal, to manage safe and certified removal of hazardous material, including asbestos located in the old buildings. The demolition workers will also recover as much reusable and recyclable material as possible.

Subject to approvals, it is anticipated that some overgrown or established trees will be removed. The proposed landscaping plans ensure that more trees and shrubs are planted than are removed.

In the second half of the year, again subject to approvals, the site will experience refurbishment of an administration block and the school hall, and complete redevelopment of contemporary classroom facilities. Technology allows for modular construction of classrooms off-site to reduce disruptions that are characteristic of traditional building projects.

The project managers anticipate brief periods of inconvenience during construction. The latest update will be published at the top of this Q&A to help you anticipate these disruptions.

When will the new facilities open and what will be offered?

Our project team is working to prepare the site to be operational in 2027.

Once opened, for the 2027 calendar year, WCCS Infants at North Road will serve Kindergarten and Year 1, then expand to include Year 2 from 2028.

A preschool, independent to Wyong Christian Community School, will deliver 60 places to children aged 3-5 years old. Details about the preschool and opportunities to secure your child’s place will be announced subject to approvals. For enquiries about enrolment expressions of interest, please message us through project enquiries, here.

North Road will also accommodate a School for Specific Purposes (SSP), delivering targeted teaching and learning for Years 1 and 2. Further details about the SSP are subject to planning and approval. For enquiries about enrolment expressions of interest, please message us through project enquiries, here.

Like WCCS, the preschool and the SSP are established as Christian ministries of Wyong Baptist Church and continue to honour the vision and mission to serve Wyong and surrounding regions with Biblically-based education for our children and young people.
