What are the reasons for creating a second campus?

For a number of years, the school has experienced high demand for enrolment places, beyond the current capacity of the school. This has precipitated questions such as; How might we expand the Kingdom-building work that occurs at WCCS? How big do we want to grow? How do we ensure we preserve what is critically important to the ministry of WCCS? We have been working through whether the most appropriate way to manage these challenges is through growing the existing site or expanding to an additional site. Ultimately, the School Board recognised that an additional site 1100m up the road provided the best opportunity to address some of these challenges.

Is maintaining the strong school community a priority?

Focusing on the priority of community is the reason why we are leaning into this opportunity of a second campus. We are confident that we will be able to establish a wonderful community for our younger children who can enter ‘big school’ in a more managed environment where the oldest students will only be in Year 2. There will be reduced numbers of students across the Infants Campus at North Road, as opposed to the main campus. Our desire is for our new students commencing Kindergarten to be confident they are known and loved in a smaller environment, before they transition to the main campus for their Primary and Secondary School years of education.

We love the size and community of WCCS as it is. Why has the decision to grow the school been made?

Should we have made the decision to remain the size we were, it would mean communicating to a growing number of families that they are unable to join our wonderful community because we simply cannot fit them in. Our desire is to be a welcoming community, and for this to be the reality, we needed to grow. Growing our size whilst prioritising community is the reason why we are establishing the second campus.

Will the wonderful school and community events of WCCS (e.g. Grandparents’ Morning, Community Picnic) involve all students/both campuses?

It is very much our thinking that we are one school with two campuses. We are working hard to ensure the culture-defining events such as Grandparents Days, Carnivals and special events will involve all students across both campuses as much as is practical. At the same time, an additional campus will create new opportunities for events that are more targeted to Infants students.

Why is it best to move Infants to the new campus?

We did consider transitioning Senior Students (Years 11 and 12) to the new site. That would have required building many purpose-built facilities to ensure the curriculum was still delivered effectively. This would include Science laboratories, Design and Technology workshops, Food Technology rooms, Visual Arts spaces, amongst other facilities. All these facilities would still be required at the main campus for our Years 7–10 students. We did not believe that was the most prudent use of finances to double up on so many expensive facilities. This was one of the reasons why we felt it best to transition Infants to the new site.

In addition, we are planning to establish a Preschool on the new site. This is because we are prohibited from establishing a Preschool at 100 Alison Road due to flood plain challenges. We believe there is a much greater symmetry in having Preschool students and Infants students on the one site, as opposed to Preschool and Years 11 and 12.

How will the school support families who will have students at both sites?

We are planning to have shuttle bus runs between the two sites in the mornings and afternoons to enable parents to navigate only one drop-off in the morning and collection in the afternoon.

What plans are in place to ensure the facilities and grounds at the new campus are at a high standard and consistent with the current campus?

We are committed to emulating the wonderful facilities we currently enjoy at 100 Alison Road at the new campus and will not be placing students on that site until this has been established. It is part of the reason why the program is taking as long as it is. Rather than simply renovate the existing classrooms, we are organising to have them demolished and replaced with brand-new purpose-built facilities that reflect the aesthetic of the current campus. In reality, the new classrooms will be more suited for Infants students than our current rooms.

How will the school ensure the safety of young children in an area with more traffic and higher population around the site?

The care of the youngest members of our community, both at Preschool and within the Infants Campus, is at the forefront of our planning. We will be ensuring that the students are safe and that external visitors need to first report to the school office. This will involve safety fences, but we are confident that these can be landscaped in a way that ensures the students feel safe without feeling contained.

I love that my children are all at the same school. Will there be opportunities for the whole school community to still gather and interact?

Regular engagement across campuses will be planned into the calendar throughout the year. This may involve older students travelling to our Infants Campus or our younger students coming to the main campus. We will be one school on two sites. The fact that the campuses are only 1100 metres apart (walking distance for the majority of our students) should help facilitate regular integration.

How will the transition from the Infants Campus to the main campus be managed effectively?

Year 2 will have regular visits to the main campus throughout their final year as part of Infants. There may indeed be opportunity for us to establish a modest graduation assembly for Year 2 as they move into Primary on the main campus. Future leaders within the main campus may also meet with Year 2 to help them feel welcomed and excited about transitioning to the main campus.

What is the timeframe for the new site to be operational?

We continue to do all we can to be operational for the beginning of 2027. This will be reliant on the school being able to achieve the required building approvals, construction timeframes and registration requirements.

What will the new campus be called?

It will be known as Wyong Christian Community School Infants Campus.

How will Out of School Hours Care operate in the new arrangement?

WOOSH (Wyong Out of School Hours) Care is run by Wyong Baptist Church. They are planning to expand their offerings to include care at the new campus as well as the existing campus.

What other entities are likely to be constructed on the new site?

In addition to the Kindergarten to Year 2 Infants Campus, we are also working to establish a Preschool on the site for 3–5 year olds, and a School for Specific Purposes (SSP) for students with additional needs in Years 1 and 2.

Will enrolment in Kindergarten be connected to, or impacted by, attending the Preschool?

No, the Preschool will operate as a separate entity to the school. As such, the enrolment processes will be independent of one another. We feel it would be best for students within the Preschool to transition into Kindergarten on the same campus, but enrolment in the Preschool does not guarantee a student a place in Kindergarten. Similarly, children are not required to be enrolled in the onsite Preschool to establish a place in Kindergarten.

When can I enrol my child in the Preschool?

We are not allowed to accept enrolments for the Preschool until we have officially received accreditation to run the facility. This cannot happen until the Preschool is completed onsite, so it is going to be some time before we are able to officially accept enrolments. Realistically, it may not be until towards the end of this year.

What is the reason for establishing a School for Specific Purposes (SSP)?

We want to partner with parents well and be a blessing to the wider community. Whilst we do our best to cater for students with additional needs in our mainstream setting, we are aware that there are some students who require an alternative learning environment to help them flourish. Our hope is that, by establishing a new facility, purposely designed to more effectively meet the needs of appropriate students, they too will have the opportunity to hear about the saving grace offered by Jesus and that the parents of those children will feel welcomed and supported rather than marginalised and ignored.

Why is the SSP best placed on the new campus rather than on the main campus?

The longer-term plan is to establish a second campus of the SSP on the main school site. An SSP is a new venture for our ministry; we felt it wise to commence in a modest fashion with younger students initially and grow the ministry into the main campus in subsequent years. Currently, due to our enrolment numbers, we would also not receive approval from NESA to have an SSP on our existing site.

What is the best way to contact the school if I still have questions?

We understand that you may still have more questions. We would encourage you to reach out to the school either by phone (02) 4351 2020 or email office@wyongccs.nsw.edu.au and we will endeavour to help you feel informed about this exciting new venture for the ministry of WCCS.
