Junior School Events, Camps and Sporting Opportunities

Sport in Junior School

In Junior School, students have ample opportunity to participate, engage and compete in a wide variety of sports and physical activities throughout the year. Students in Years 2 upwards (who are 8 years and over) are also able to participate in the annual Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals. We also offer modified versions of these activities for students in Kindergarten and Year 1. These major carnivals are a wonderful opportunity for parents, teachers and students to strengthen relationships.

Students are placed into one of our four Houses:

  • Ashe (Yellow)
  • Bannister (Red)
  • Cuthbert (Blue)
  • Liddell (Green)

Junior School Sport also invites and encourages students to compete in a variety of sports against Christian schools in our Zone. Our sporting Gala Days include:

  • AFL
  • Basketball
  • Biathlon
  • Cricket
  • Futsal
  • Gymnastics
  • Netball
  • Oztag
  • Rugby 7s
  • Soccer

Students who compete at a high level outside of school in sport also have the opportunity to trial for the CSSA or CIS representative team for their given sport. Students can trial for representative teams in the sports of AFL (boys), basketball, cricket, diving, golf, hockey, netball, rugby league, rugby union, softball, soccer, tennis and touch football. WCCS also supports students competing in Equestrian events throughout the year.

Junior School Camps

Our school camps and excursions are included within our global school fees. In Junior School our camp schedule includes the following enriching and adventurous experiences:

  • Camp Toukley - attended by Years 3-6
  • Year 5 Hill End
  • Year 6 Canberra

Community Events

Throughout the year we have various opportunities to gather with our community. We value partnering with families and strengthing our connection in the following ways:

  • Meet the Teacher Evening - at the beginning of the school year, parents and carers are invited to meet their child's teachers and get to know each other in a more informal environment.
  • Mother's Day and Father's Day - each year we hold a small celebration around these dates to honour and thank the parents and carers in our community.
  • Sport Carnivals
  • Community Picnic - on the day of Cross Country Carnival
  • Literacy Day - Book Parade and Reader's Theatre
  • School Musical - our biennial school musical will be held this year (2023). We are excited to showcase the God-given gifts and talents in the area of the Creative Arts. Our 2023 School Musical is HONK Jr.
  • Grandparents' Morning - twice a year we invite Grandparents of Junior School students to attend a Chapel service, followed by a classroom visit and morning tea.
  • Junior School Christmas Carols Evening

School Concert Band and Private Music Tuition

Band Opportunities - Students in Years K-6 have the opportunity in a number of ensembles including the Beginner Band and the Junior School Concert Band. As a school, we provide whole band rehearsals as part of our Global Fee Structure. The School Board, along with our school’s Senior Leadership Team, greatly values our expanding music program and continues to support its growth.

Private Music Tuition for students (one-on-one lessons) can be arranged by contacting our school office. Lesson prices vary, depending on the tutor’s qualifications and experience. Lessons take place weekly on a rotating roster so that students do not miss the same class time each week. Many of our band students are already enrolled with a private tutor either at school or externally. Invoices for Private Tuition are billed directly to the parent by the tutor.
