Campus Principal's Message - Week 3, Term 1
Hello everyone.
I want to begin by thanking the many people who have congratulated me on my new role as Campus Principal. It is a pleasure to be a part of the WCCS community, the students, the families, and the staff, and I am blessed to join Darren in leading the school in 2026, taking on more responsibility as our school becomes two campuses in the future. It is an exciting season for our school.
This week I spoke to the staff about the importance of remembering where we have come from, and the important milestones in our lives. Whether good, challenging or painful, God can shape these in us when we approach them with an open heart, helping us to grow in wisdom so we can better navigate our lives. Even more importantly, they can help us walk alongside others who may be experiencing something similar.
The Old Testament has many accounts illustrating where a significant event took place; the Israelites marked the place to help future generations understand the significance of the event. Whether it be the large stones that were coated in plaster to write God’s laws given to them (Deuteronomy 27), or the stone named Ebenezer (1 Samuel 7) to remind the Israelites when they defeated the Philistines.
When I look back at my own life, I can recognise such milestones. Some were seasons of great joy, others quite painful. Regardless of the emotion attached to them, I see them now as opportunities to reflect on the "threads of God" that were woven through those times. These milestones mark the chapters where we learned, celebrated, or even grieved through events that fundamentally changed our life stories.
Over the years I have had conversations with many students, often around poor choices they made, and it has been my role to put consequences in place. I try to remind these students that whilst the consequences are unpleasant, communicating that they did not meet our community expectations, they are not the end of the story. I challenge them to place a ‘metaphorical marker’ in their life, and to view that difficult day as a milestone they can look back on years from now, recognising how God used that specific situation to help grow them into a wiser, more considerate person.
I encourage us all to be reflective people. Let us be a community that looks at the milestones in our lives, the successes and the struggles alike, allowing them to develop us into wiser individuals who draw closer to God each day.
Looking forward to journeying with you in 2026.
God bless,
